Horse Mobility Two – tendons, ligaments and muscles

A great amount of emphasis has been placed on the nutrients that are components of cartilage and synovial fluid (ie the joint tissues) but much less time and effort has been invested in the tissues that actually hold the joints in position. These are tendons, ligaments and muscles. We think this is a mistake because if these soft tissues are not functioning properly the joint will be unsupported, flop around and that will lead to uneven wear and tear that no amount of chondroitin and glucosamine may be able to fix. Think of this going on all over the body not just in the legs or back.

So we believe in the notion of a mobility supplement not a joint supplement. Although we are not alone in this there are surprisingly few such products on the market.

The primary ingredients used to help these three tissues function properly and repair and renew themselves are anti-oxidants. There is a bewildering array of anti-oxidants on the market. Most are extracts of various plant materials. The currently most fashionable anti-oxidant is the curcumin found in turmeric but the conflicting claims are a nightmare for experienced nutritionists let alone for consumers.

At EquiFeast we use a blend of conventional Vitamin C and Vitamin E plus a rather fancy anti-oxidant package developed by a consultant at Guys Hospital who developed it for use in premature babies. For prem babies oxygen is both essential for life and, without support from their mother’s blood system, highly toxic. We like this package because of its safety features and efficacy demonstrated over many years now.

We are confident that combining joint nutrients with powerful anti-oxidants is a great way to help maintain healthy soft tissues that support joints. That way we hope to reduce joint injuries and help make the tendons, ligaments and muscles more resilient.
