'I'm amazed I stayed on!!' Cat Jamieson, Bursary Lesson Report
Great lesson with Cassie Price – we decided to jump as it’s my weakest phase, working on getting Ned going forward in the canter – he is a compact horse and finds it difficult to stretch through his neck, meaning his canter is normally in the air rather than forward and ground covering.
We worked on lengthening and shortening strides between 2 poles – either 5 or 6 strides, extremely difficult at first. Cassie then put up a grid down the center line which incorporated 3 bounces!!!
Ned tackles the line of bounces like a pro, CoolCORE helping him work it all out!
Well we didn’t half get a shock the first time down it, I’m amazed I stayed on! It was highly amusing, and very nice to have a trainer who laughs a lot instead of criticising!
Anyway we made a vast improvement throughout the lesson, learns to take away were: “forwards” “hands” “look up” - simple and basic, but gets forgotten about since I ride mostly on my own!
A better quality canter on approach improved Ned's jump...
Ned worked hard and it’s made me realise I need to up the intensity of work at home. Very much looking forward to the next lesson.
Thanks EquiFeast!
